How Apple Can Enter The Console Gaming Market

In a report published Monday, JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall commented on recent reports that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is planning "to take the wraps" off of a brand new set-top box, featuring Siri integration and support for a native App store.

Hall added that Apple will also provide developers with a new software development kit to write applications for the new device which may include Siri voice input, as well as the company's A8 processor found in the iPhone 6 line. In addition, the analyst noted that the device will also feature storage that goes "well beyond" the eight gigabytes found on the current hardware.

"We believe that this opens the potential for Apple to compete in the console gaming market," Hall wrote. "The Console and PC gaming market is expected to be a ~$35 billion software market in 2015."

Hall concluded that Apple's new TV product is a "positive impact," as every 10 percent of share in the Console and PC gaming space equates to approximately 1.5 percent of additional earnings for Apple.
