iOS 8.4 Beta Revamps Music App

The developer seed is available now, just days after Apple released iOS 8.3 for consumers.

Though iOS 8.3 just arrived, Apple has already launched the beta version of iOS 8.4, which according to 9to5Mac, includes a revamped Music app.

The redesign "makes exploring your music collection easier and more fun," the app description says, by allowing you to personalize playlists with images and descriptions, 9to5Mac said. There are also new artist photos and the option to play an album directly from the album list.

Other changes include placing new albums and playlists at the top of your library, and a streamlined iTunes Radio service—complete with the Recently Played and Featured Stations tabs.

Users will also be able to wirelessly stream music via AirPlay without leaving the Now Playing screen, and tap the Up Next icon to find out which tunes are on the docket.

The fun doesn't end there, though. Cupertino will reportedly include a global search—tap the magnifying glass to search from anywhere in the Music app—and the new MiniPlayer. Forget swiping screens or trying to remember what's on tap: Control playback and keep track of what's on while simultaneously browsing your music collection.

iPad users, meanwhile, will get a split-screen interface, 9to5Mac reported, adding that the iPhone landscape interface has been removed.

Apple did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment; the company is expected to announce more details about the update at this summer's Worldwide Developer Conference.

Last week, the tech giant pushed out iOS 8.3, with a host of fixes for messages and Wi-Fi, as well as screen orientation. It also comes with additional language and country support for Siri, improved pronunciation of street names in Maps, and a redesigned emoji keyboard with more than 300 new characters.
