Conflicting reports tip two different launch timelines for Apple's first HomeKit-enabled smart devices.

Some may be available as early as June, while others could arrive this fall.

Apple on Thursday told The Wall Street Journal to expect "the first [accessories] coming next month."

"HomeKit has been available for just a few months and we already have dozens of partners who have committed to bringing HomeKit accessories to market," a company spokeswoman told the newspaper. "And we're looking forward to the first ones coming next month."

The statement, however, contradicts a recent Fortune report. Citing anonymous sources, the outlet said software stabilization issues caused a delay in product launches.

According to Fortune, Apple is still trying to shrink its code to reduce memory needed for smaller, battery-powered smart devices (door locks, light bulbs, etc.). Lightning charging ports are reportedly also a problem.

"To be clear, Apple has never announced a launch date for HomeKit," Fortune said on Thursday. "But partners had said during this year's CES … to expect something in spring."

Apple did not respond to PCMag's request for comment.

Cupertino unveiled its home automation platform during last June's Worldwide Developer Conference, alongside a preview of next-gen mobile operating system iOS 8.

With HomeKit, companies can pair their products with an iPhone or iPad, allowing users to control the Internet of Things with an iOS device. Secure pairing means only your handset can unlock the front door or open the garage.

The system also allows for grouping of devices and changes into scenes. So, if you tell Siri to "get ready for bed," HomeKit will make sure the thermostat is lowered and the lights are dimmed before you climb under the covers.

For away-from-home access to your gadgets, rumor has it users will have to connect HomeKit to an Apple TV set-top box.

Cupertino has revealed little about HomeKit, likely keeping details under wraps before next month's WWDC event.
