Apple has just released Watch OS 1.0.1, the first ever over-the-air software update for the Apple Watch. The new version improves performance for Siri, Accessibility, and third-party apps. Some fitness tracking functions also get attention—standing activity measurements, calorie counting for indoor cycling and rowing, and measuring distance and pace while walking and running outdoors have all been improved.

The update includes support for the new emoji introduced in iOS 8.3. Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Thai, and Turkish language support have also been improved.

Apple Watch software updates are installed from the Apple Watch app rather than from the watch itself. Go to the app, then General, and Software Update to prompt an update check. To install the update, Apple says your watch needs to be within range of your phone, connected to its charger, and charged to 50 percent or higher. It will pause the installation if your watch doesn't meet one or more of these criteria. From there, the update process works much the same way that it does for iOS.

For now, the compatibility list is simple: this update is for all Apple Watches of all sizes and editions.

Update: Apple has also posted a list of the security fixes in Watch OS 1.0.1.
