Apple Negative Rumor Mill In High Gear

This article is more than 8 years old.

This is the usual time of the year when the negative rumors and stories on Apple kicks off into into high gear. New products are going to be launched (chatter is still September 9) sometime in September although we have no confirmation on the date from the company itself as yet. This is the time when the negative chatter really picks up steam and reaches crescendo levels shortly after the new products are introduced. (bendgate-iPhone 6 Plus, antennagate-iPhone 4, mapsgate-iOS, hairgate-iPhone 6 crackgate-iPhone 3G)

The company is set to introduce a newer version of the iPhone, a new and revamped Apple TV box and maybe other products or services as well.

Leading into Apple's fall launch and just after the launch of new products is when the false rumor mill churns into a frenzy not caring whether there is any truth to the story or not.

Just yesterday, Apple disputed the claim made by some outfit called MusicWatch that claimed that a whopping 48% of Apple Music trial users have stopped using the service and that only 11% of iOS users have even tried the service thus far.

Apple stated that the drop rate was 21% and not the 48% that MusicWatch reported. In addition, 64% of Apple Music users said that they were likely to start paying for the service once their free trials run out.  That is a very strong trial user to paid subscriber conversion rate no matter how skewed and biased one's opinion might be.

So, before you buy into these fabricated stories or worse sell your Apple investment based on the false rumor mill, wait till things play out first.

More than likely the truth emerges within a day or two after the false rumors start.

Words to the wise.
