Automation app Workflow receives a big update for iOS 9, WatchOS 2.0

Getting Stuff Done
September 24, 2015

Powerful automation app Workflow, one of our favorite paid titles released in 2014, has just moved up to version 1.4 with a nice number of new features.

If you’re not familiar with the app, you definitely should be. Best described as automation software, there are more than 200 actions included for users to take advantage of. With those, you can build a nearly infinite combination of different workflows to accomplish a wide variety of tasks.

You can read more about how the app works in our recent how-to.

Ready for the iPhone 6s and iOS 9

And with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus officially arriving tomorrow, the app now takes advantage of the 3D Touch feature of those handsets. With those iPhones, you can press firmly on a workflow to take a quick peek at the information. Pressing the app icon will show quick shortcuts to your different workflows.

Along with being able to use the app with the Split View multitasking feature of the iPad Air 2 and fourth-generation iPad mini, all iOS 9 users can search their workflows from Spotlight.

Interestingly, you can now also use Siri to set a reminder to run a specific workflow later.

A new complication for the Apple Watch

Developer DeskConnect didn’t forget about the wonderful Apple Watch app. Thanks to the recently released WatchOS 2.0, the app now runs natively on the device. That means the overall performance should be noticeably faster.

You can also run a number of workflows from the watch, including Record Audio, Show Directions, Show in Maps, Call, FaceTime, Send Message, and Vibrate Device.

And running a workflow is even easier thanks to a new complication that can be viewed directly from your watch face.

Here’s an interactive preview of the watch app courtesy of our sister site WatchAware.

Workflow is a universal app for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for $3.99.
