Apple today released OS X 10.11.1, which is the first update to the new El Capitan operating system that was launched to the public on September 30. In testing since mid-September, OS X 10.11.1 is a minor performance update that focuses on fixing bugs found in the first version of El Capitan.

The OS X 10.11.1 update can be downloaded through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store and it is available to all users who are running OS X El Capitan.

According to the release notes, OS X 10.11.1 fixes several major bugs that El Capitan users have been experiencing since the software was released. It improves compatibility with Microsoft Office 2016, addressing ongoing crashing issues that Office 2016 users have run into. There are also two fixes for Mail issues.

This update:
- Improves installer reliability when upgrading to OS X El Capitan
- Improves compatibility with Microsoft Office 2016
- Fixes an issue where outgoing server information may be missing from Mail
- Resolves an issue that prevented display of messages and mailboxes in Mail
- Resolves an issue that prevents certain Audio Unit plug-ins from functioning properly
- Improves VoiceOver reliability
- Adds over 150 new emoji characters with full Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 support

OS X 10.11.1 also introduces support for Unicode 7 and 8, adding new emoji that include taco, burrito, cheese wedge, middle finger, hot dog, popcorn, and unicorn head. These emoji are also included in iOS 9.1.

No RAID support in Disk Utility anymore, but we now have a taco icon and middle finger! Woohoo! That middle finger one will come in handy when I send Tim Cook my feedback on how I feel about Apple's priorities these days. ;)

Hey, the new iTunes update has a nice BEGGAR SCREAM on it when you start iTunes after the update! "WON'T YOU PLEASE TRY iTUNES MUSIC!?!? PLLLLLEEEEEAASSSE??? COME ON! START YOUR FREE TRIAL ALREADY!!??!?! I'LL THROW IN A BURRITO ICON FOR FREE!"

Yeah, it was pretty annoying. I guess everyone went back to Spotify after the trial period ended because iTunes looked like some kid designed the interface. I hear his name is Johnny Boy.

I'm really tired of Apple releasing a new OS every year. It's just ridiculous. It's too fast and it almost always takes a good 6-9 months just to iron out the new bugs. I wish they would at least move to a 2-year cycle so we could quit chasing down all of these problems for awhile.

Everything has been working great except for two things. First, Norton Antivirus started taking up 235% of my CPU. Turned my fans on my MBA and everything. Crazy.

Second, battery life seems horrible. I am at 60% and it says I have 3 hours of battery life left on my 2015 MBA. On 10.11.0 it would have said about 7-9 hours left. Have no idea what it going on but I hope it's just acting a bit screwy for now and this isn't permanent.
A reason then to get rid of Norton... Jebus, i wouldn't even put that on a Windoze machine, let alone a Mac, which doesn't actually need it...???

where is the combo update ?
Update should be working now... I am updating as we speak 942MB combo update.

Guys, there is no combo, you need a minimum 10.x.2 version for it to be called a combo.
10.11.0 is the new OS, then 10.11.1 is only 1 update from 10.11, the combo combines previous ones, so there will be a combo from 10.11.2 and onwards since it will skip all the former 10.11.1-2-3-4...versions.
