Apple starts accepting tvOS app submissions for the new Apple TV

The new Apple TV is coming next week, marking the second new OS and app platform Apple has launched this year — the Apple Watch brought watchOS, and now the Apple TV has tvOS. So that you don't turn on your new set-top box to be greeted with a barren App Store, Apple has just started accepting app and game submissions from its development community.

Apple is providing developers with guidelines for supporting major Apple TV features like the touch-sensitive remote, as well as more esoteric additions such as the layered parallax effect on app icons. Apps can be universal bundles with their iPhone or iPad counterparts, meaning you'll likely have some tvOS apps in your purchase history right away if developers choose to flip that switch. And with shipments expected to start arriving by the end of next week, developers have roughly a week to get their apps ready for opening day.
