1Password Expands Its Offerings With 1Password For Teams

This article is more than 8 years old.

Letting workgroups manage their own passwords is a miserable experience. They come up with easy to remember passwords that are insecure, or they come up with secure passwords that they either have to have constantly reset or worse, write down on a note on their desk. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone on your team had access to a secure password solution that was easily manageable and easy to use? Luckily, 1Password, my go-to app of choice for secure passwords, is launching a new initiative that will appeal to those of you who have been clamoring to share your 1Password vaults with your family and team members: 1Password for Teams.

1Password for Teams provides the same level of secure encryption and robust password generation; but adds a few new features so that multiple users can all use the same service.

The Admin Console is new to 1Password for Teams and provides a central location for you to manage your team, vaults and shared items.

Speaking of shared items, you can now share and revoke access to vaults. When authorized, new vaults will appear automatically on all devices, without anyone having to configure syncing. Whenever an item in a shared vault is modified, changes, additions and revocations spread instantly to all devices.

But what about sensitive information? You don't necessarily need to give everyone access to the company books just because they share a vault. For that, there are access features such as read-only vaults, available limitations on print and export items, and even an option to allow team members to log in to sites without being able to see the passwords.

And for those times when passwords do get lost, you now have the option to recover locked out accounts. For the single-user 1Password app, if you ever lost your master password, you were in trouble; because AgileBits does not have the ability to reset your password. However, with 1Password for Teams, admins can recover account access for teammates, just in case.

1Password for Teams is free during the beta, with a monthly subscription kicking in once it ends in a few months. You can sign up here: https://teams.1password.com

The official announcement is over on the AgileBits blog.
