“If we hadn’t made those little blue boxes, there might never have been an Apple computer.” — Steve Jobs
It’s a David and Goliath story, only David is armed with a whistle from a box of Cap’n Crunch cereal and Goliath is a telecommunications giant. In “Little Blue Box,” the latest in the “Signals” series from FiveThirtyEight and ESPN Films, producer-directors David Beilinson, Suki Hawley and Michael Galinsky recount the 1960s story of a group of hackers known as phone phreaks who found a way to avoid long-distance charges. Two of those phreaks just happened to be students named Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs.
