Tumblr iOS App Gets GIF-Making Tool

The feature should also arrive on Tumblr's Android app in the near future.

Expect to start seeing a bigger variety of GIFs on Tumblr.

The blogging platform on Tuesday updated its iOS app with a built-in GIF maker, which should arrive on Tumblr's Android app in the near future.

"Yesterday: GIFs are great! But actually making them kinda sucks," the company wrote in a post. "Today: GIFs are great! And any video (or burst!) on your iOS device can be GIFFed, edited, and posted using the Tumblr app."

Once you update the app, you can simply open a new photo post, pick a video or burst, edit it to your preference, and voila.

"You can crop it. Zoom it. Trim it. Make it fast. Make it slow. Make it loop. Make it rebound back and forth. Make a whole bunch and arrange them into a photoset," Tumblr wrote.

If you need some inspiration, head over to the #made with tumblr search to see what other people have created. Tumblr said not to underestimate bursts, which "produce extremely handsome GIFs" and advised that "the shorter your GIF, the better it'll look."

The new tool comes after Tumblr earlier this year made it easier to find the perfect GIF to accentuate your post.

Meanwhile, Visual Supply Co., creator of the popular VSCO Cam photo-editing app recently released an iOS app called DSCO (pronounced 'disco'), which lets you easily capture, edit, and share animated GIFs. Just capture a few seconds of video with the app's built-in camera, swipe to add filters, then hit Publish to send it right to your VSCO profile.
