Hoping to find the new Apple TV under your Christmas tree next week? If so, we've got some good news for you.

Those receiving the latest Amazon Fire TV rival this festive season will be able to fill it with all the Beeb's best content from day one, as a dedicated BBC iPlayer Apple TV app lands in time for Christmas.

Having been the major, glaring on-demand omission from the iPhone maker's set-top box, the BBC iPlayer app brings the network's recent shows to the biggest screen in the house, fuss free.

Existing Apple TV owners won't have to wait until Christmas to enjoy the new app either.

BBC iPlayer is hitting the Apple TV App Store today, December 14.

As well as outing its new Apple TV iPlayer app, the BBC has confirmed a range of new content will be available on its catch-up service this holiday period.

Joining the usual collection of comedy, drama and sports content will be a two-part Luther: The Journey So Far special, a behind the scenes of The Voice UK show and a Star Wars at the BBC documentary.

The BBC iPlayer Apple TV app is free to download.
