Is Apple's Big Secret The Need To Buy Time?

This article is more than 8 years old.

On 60 Minutes this past Sunday when questioned by Charlie Rose about chatter about an Apple Car, Tim Cook put on his best cat-ate-the-canary smile and stated, "One of the great things about Apple is we probably have more secrecy here than the CIA."

Just think about that for a moment.

What if all the "Spy vs Spy" stuff is just a sham, and after Steve Jobs death's Apple has actually run out of true innovation and are maintaining an illusion of secrecy so as to buy time and hope that Jony Ive and his gang can come up with something truly innovative soon?

Maybe far-fetched (even for yours truly admittedly) but possible, no?

After all, Apple is not the only company in Silicon Valley working on "change the world" projects. Several others are working to do the same thing. To name just a couple, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, with Space X, Amazon with Blue Origin and who knows what else?

Maybe the only thing that is really secret at Apple now is the desperate need for secrecy to buy time for innovation.

Is that what the stock is telling us almost daily?

Apple shares are down 20% from the all time highs made earlier this year and also lower by 14% from its post September quarter earnings highs made in late October.
