Livestream is notifying users of a possible data breach

Just as everyone is settling in for serious holiday streaming marathons, Livestream is alerting customers of a possible data breach. The streaming company notified users this week that an unauthorized party might have accessed its account database, Engadget reports. Names, email addresses, encrypted passwords, dates of birth, and phone numbers might have been compromised. The service recommends notified users change their passwords, although there’s been no indication the passwords were decrypted.

While none of this information is necessarily catastrophic if released, it could still assist in identity theft or phishing attempts, especially when cross-referenced with other compromised databases. Livestream has at least 300,000 accounts actively streaming content, however it doesn’t specify how many users are affected in the breach. Livestream did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
