Intel has recently rolled out updated graphics drivers for devices powered by its 6th-generation processors and running Windows 10, including Microsoft's very own Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book.

Microsoft has recently said that it is working with partners and companies across the world to update their drivers in order to fix BSODs and other issues that might be experienced on Windows 10, so after getting updated software for Nvidia cards, adopters of the new operating system are provided with improved drivers for Intel graphics too.

First of all, it's worth knowing that these new drivers are only aimed at devices equipped with sixth-generation Intel processors, and the company announces that older generations should get updates in the coming future too.

“This driver is for 6th Generation Intel Core processors, Intel Core M, and related Pentium processors with Intel HD Graphics 510, 515, 520, 530, Intel Iris Graphics 540 and Intel Iris Graphics 550. 4th and 5th Generation Intel Core and related processors are not supported with this driver but will be supported in future drivers,” it notes.

Fixed issues

We're hearing from our readers that, after installing these updates, BSODs and freezes no longer occur as often as before, and Intel indeed says that the new driver version 15.40.14.64.4352 and 15.40.14.32.4352 do include stability fixes for the aforementioned processors.

At the same time, it informs us that the new release comes with fixes for systems with both discrete graphics and Intel graphics that previously experienced freezes all of a sudden, but also for devices that got similar errors with HD Graphics 510.

The company specifically mentions that the new driver software “reduces the probability of getting a blue screen in certain scenarios.”

In addition to Windows 10, some improvements are also available on Windows 7 and 8.1, so you can download Intel Graphics driver version 15.40.14.64.4352 right away to see what's new.

It could take a while until the new drivers show up in Windows Update, so manually downloading them seems to be the only way to get them without waiting.
