Mac and PC have ways to print iPhone text messages

By Updated

Q: Is there a way to print a text messaging conversation that is on my iPhone?

A: If you have an Apple computer and you have Apple Message configured for your account, you can print text conversations because all of your messages will be available on the computer as well as your iPhone. All you have to do is open the conversation on your computer, and choose File and then Print.

If you are not using a Mac, you have a couple of options.

The first is to take a screen shot of the text conversation and mail it to yourself. This might require quite a few screen shots to capture the whole conversation.

Another option is to use a third-party utility to transfer the messages to your computer, and from there you should be able to print them out. I don't have personal experience with software applications that perform this task, but an application called TouchCopy from Wide Angle Software looks promising. You can download a free trial of the software at www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy. Keep in mind that the trial version may lack the functionality you are seeking, which means you might have to pay to register the program before it does what you want it to do.

TouchCopy also appears to have a number of other useful features for copying data from the phone to your computer.

Also, a quick Internet search should turn up some more software options.

Q: Every time I try to open a PDF file, I get the message "Word will now convert your PDF to an editable Word document. This may take a while..." I don't want to open PDF files in Word. I want to open them in Adobe Reader. How can I fix this?

A: More recent versions of Microsoft Word have the ability to open and edit PDF files. If you installed one of the PDF editing programs I mentioned in a previous article, it likely associated PDF files with Word to make editing more seamless.

This is easy to rectify. All you need to do is associate Adobe Reader with PDF files so it is the default program for opening them again.

Find a PDF file, hold the Shift key and right click it. Select Open With and click Choose Default Program. Here you can select Abobe Reader. Also, be sure to check the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" so it will open in Adobe Reader by default. This will cause Adobe Reader to open when you double click a PDF file.

You can still open a PDF file in Word for editing by using the File, Open option inside of Word or by right clicking a PDF file and selecting Open With and choosing Word.
