Microsoft has just updated the official iOS app of its OneDrive file hosting service to take advantage of Apple’s latest pressure-sensitive technologies.

PDF annotation

In late September, OneDrive for iOS was updated with Outlook integration, VoiceOver accessibility, and support for sharing folders. At the same time, it was updated with the ability to annotate PDF files right within the app with highlights, comments, and drawings.

It’s this ability which the latest update to OneDrive builds upon, along with the app’s support for 3D Touch on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus (which was added in November initially for app icon shortcuts), and support for iPad Pro (which was added just last week).

Pressure-sensitive drawing

The new version of OneDrive introduces support for pressure-sensitive drawings, sketches and signatures on PDF files, including proposals, contracts, manuals, receipts, and more.

This means that you can now automatically vary the thickness of your lines when annotating PDF files with 3D Touch on your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, or with Apple Pencil on your iPad Pro. Instead of manually adjusting the line thickness beforehand, you can just press harder with your finger or stylus to make your lines thicker on the fly.

Given that PDF is said to be the most common document format on OneDrive, the newly added support for pressure-sensitive annotations is likely to come in handy for users of the app on iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, or iPad Pro.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 8.0 or later, OneDrive is available on the App Store for free.

The latest update to OneDrive also includes various bug fixes and stability improvements.
