When technology and an art combine the possibilities are endless. The same goes with the Butterfly Dress by Turkish designers Ezra and Tuba Çetin. The duo has developed an exclusive blue dress that does have butterflies, albeit mechanical ones, that take flight each time they detect an approaching person. The dress itself is made from luxury jacquard interwoven with metallic Lurex fibers. About forty butterflies nestle on the dress and idly move their wings. The proximity sensors on the dress ensures that the butterflies are well aware of approaching people. The flight of the butterflies can be triggered by a wireless controller as well.


“We love to play with fabrics, designs, colors, movement and aesthetics, but the future of clothing as we know it is about to change,” said Tuba. “To be part of this change we need technology.” The dress is surely a long leap in the direction towards interactive wearable technology that goes beyond screens. The dress was subject to much trial and error but thanks to the efficiency of Intel’s technology the dress was powered into existence.
