Version 2.4 is now available for download

GWX Stopper is one of the applications that can help a Windows 7 or 8.1 user prevent Windows 10 from being “accidentally” installed on their computers, and an update released this morning brings new functionality on these PCs.

As you’ve probably already heard, Windows 10 can be installed on Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs as a free upgrade through an app called “Get Windows 10,” which automatically scans a computer for compatibility issues and then downloads the needed files for the setup.

And here’s where GWX Stopper comes into play, as the application can disable the Get Windows 10 app and block any accidental upgrades from happening.

Version 2.4, which was officially released this morning, makes it possible for the application to be integrated in automation scripts for GWX removal. In other words, you can now build your own script and integrate GWX Stopper and then run the same script on as many PCs as you want. This should help ease the job of staying away from the upgrade for a desired time, especially for IT admins managing large networks.

Re-activation made by Windows updates

Obviously, such an app does not guarantee that the Get Windows 10 program is not re-activated, as each update released by Microsoft can do that without you knowing it. As a result, it’s recommended that you re-apply GWX Stopper changes after each update if you really want to stay on Windows 7 or 8.1 that much.

Windows 10 continues to be available as a free upgrade for those on Windows 7 and 8.1 until July 29, 2016, so in case you are indeed using GWX Stopper to block the move to the new OS, make sure you at least reconsider the decision before this date. Windows 10 might actually be worth a chance, and it’s not a clear if Microsoft will continue offering it free of charge beyond this date.
