Today Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 Redstone build 14291 for both PC and mobile devices, but as far as the former is concerned, this new version comes with quite a significant number of bug fixes and known issues.

First and foremost, the Windows development team has fixed a bug causing the notification area to look out of alignment and show two white arrows instead of the regular icon that allowed users to see hidden icons.

At the same time, they have also addressed an issue impacting connectivity to older Wi-Fi networks using WEP encryption, but also a minor problem that turned the USB icon in the system tray to the old version when ejecting drives.

Known issues in this build

First and foremost, it’s important to know that Windows 10 Redstone build 14291 still has a freezing issue affecting Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Book models. This bug was first detected in the previous build, but it turns out that Microsoft needs more time to determine its cause.

“We continue to investigate an issue in which some Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Book devices experience a freeze or hang and all input such as keyboard/trackpad and touch do not work. The workaround is to hold down the power button to force the device to hard-reboot,” Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has explained.

Additionally, Kaspersky security software is still impacted by a known driver bug that prevents it from working correctly in this build. Microsoft says that it’s already working with Kaspersky to develop a bug fix as soon as possible, but in the meantime, turning to a different security solution or sticking with Windows Defender might actually be a much better idea.

You can check out the full list of known issues and improvements in this build in the box below, and keep in mind that, since it’s a preview of the Redstone update, more issues might be discovered in different scenarios.
