BOGO deal on smaller, cheaper new Apple iPhone SE from T-Mobile

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs unveiled the original iPhone on Jan. 9, 2007, at a Macworld Conference in San Francisco. The smartphone boasted Internet capability and an MP3 player, and featured a two megapixel digital camera.

Externally, the iPhone 3GS didn't look much different from the iPhone 3G. But internally, there were several notable differences -- the 3GS was given a faster processor, more RAM, and an improved 3.0 megapixel camera. It also included a digital compass which integrated with Google Maps so users could tell which direction they were facing using their smartphones.

Apple came under fire shortly after it introduced the iPhone 4, as consumers began complaining that the iPhone 4's antenna had some problems with its design and was dropping calls. In July of 2010, Consumer Reports refused to recommend the iPhone 4 to consumers because it found severe signal attenuation (though it still gave the iPhone 4 its highest rating.) Apple ended up mailing out free bumpers to address the problem.

Unlike previous versions of the iPhone, the iPhone 4 was clearly different in terms of its external design. Apple gave it an all-stainless steel body design with sharper, more angular lines and a metal strip on the phone's sides. The new phone was introduced in black 16 gigabyte and 32 gigabyte versions, with white ones added to the lineup in Apri of 2010.

A close-up of the iPhone 3G, introduced a year after the original iPhone as an upgraded version of the instantly-popular smartphone. The external design differences between the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G were relatively modest. The 3G model had a slightly wider black frame around the screen, and the back of the 3G phone was offered in either black or white plastic, compared to the original iPhone, which used aluminum. Another difference was the 3G's headphone jack, which was no longer recessed.
