Microsoft first announced the Windows 10 Anniversary Update at Build developer conference, and the company also revealed some of the changes that would be part of the release, but it appears that there’s a lot more to come in this major update.

The Windows 10 roadmap page that we’ve already told you about during the week also includes more information about some new and undisclosed features that are scheduled to be part of the Anniversary Update due in the summer.

For example, in addition to using companion devices to unlock a Windows PC, customers will also be allowed to use a phone to unlock the computer, with Microsoft planning to add support for Windows phones and Android devices.

Those with a Windows 10 Mobile device will also receive Continuum improvements, as touch input will also be supported for external screens.

Microsoft also mentions support for a “laptop-like accessory,” explaining that users will benefit from working with “a new accessory form factor that looks like a lightweight and low-cost laptop, but without any CPU or OS. When paired with a Continuum-compatible phone, it will allow you to use your phone like a laptop.”

Microsoft Edge improvements

As far as Microsoft Edge browser is concerned, there will be several new features added, and it all starts with extensions. The company is already offering insiders the chance to try out extensions, but the browser will also get web notifications, just like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, as well as options to pin tabs and multi-factor authentication.

Picture in Picture will also arrive with the Anniversary Update to “monitor media content while focusing on other tasks,” as well as a bunch of Start menu updates that Microsoft has already presented at Build and that are supposed to make the desktop operating system a bit more user-friendly.

The Anniversary Update is projected to launch in the summer, and although Microsoft hasn’t provided more information on the release date, it’s believed that July is likely the month to bring this new version to users.
