TextExpander Backs Down, but They’re Still Subscription-Based and You Can Do Better

TextExpander backed down a little bit on their new subscription model and made the text expansion software cheaper for existing users. It’s still expensive though.

When it was initially announced, TextExpander was going to cost over $40/year. As you’d probably expect, users felt a bit hosed by both the price increase and the switch to a subscription model. Now, the developer is offering a lifetime discount that makes their “Life Hacker” plan (which has no relation to us) $20/year, but only if you’re a current TextExpander customer. It’s still not great pricing unless you’re really deep into the TextExpander ecosystem or use the syncing feature to use the mobile app. If you don’t, porting your snippets over to the $5 aText is super easy. If you’re curious on TextExpander developer Smile’s take on the change, be sure to read their blog post linked below.
