Our Verdict
The Wallet Case is one of lightest cases we tested, and works well as a reasonable replacement for your wallet.
For those looking for an ultra-sleek wallet case, Griffin’s Wallet Case (iPhone 6 and 6s; $40 through Griffin) might just might fit the bill. You will have to put up with a specific set of quirks that come with its design, though.
Design & Use
Featuring a minimalist folio design, the Wallet Case provides two credit card slots for use. The credit card slots are rather tight, and it can be hard to actually get your cards out without some effort. (On the plus side, it’s far less likely your cards will slip out when you don’t want them to.)
The Wallet Case’s cover doesn’t provide a closure to keep it securely closed, so if you’re not slipping it into a pocket, you may find it has flapped open in your bag. That does mean that your iPhone will be exposed to keys and other sharp objects that could scratch its screen.
You can use the case to prop your iPhone up in landscape orientation, although the interior is very slippery. As a result, your iPhone will tend to shift around quite a bit and fall over at the slightest movement.
Drawbacks
Besides being slippery on the inside, the Wallet Case also feels slick on the outside. If you try to rest your iPhone on an uneven surface or use it with sweaty hands, be careful—you could easily lose your grip on your phone.
The Wallet Case also doesn’t offer quite as much protection for your phone, since it secures using an open cradle design. The corners and sides on the top half of your iPhone are left unprotected.
Bottom line
The appeal of the Wallet Case is in how airy it feels: It’s one of the lightest cases we tested. So if you can live with a few drawbacks, and don’t need to carry much with you to pay for things, it works well as a reasonable replacement for your wallet. If you couple it with a nice screen protector and ensure a safe place for it when you’re on the go, it can be a great choice for someone who heartily dislikes bulk.
