One company dominates Android and iOS app downloads
When you think of popular apps, you probably think of Angry Birds, or Candy Crush, or that face-swap app that all the kids are using. But when it comes to app downloads, one company dominates the rest - Facebook.
According to research carried out by Nomura on data collected by SensorTower, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Messenger - all of which belong to Facebook - accounted for 62 percent of all app downloads for May.
When you combine this with the research that says that smartphone users spend 80 percent of their time using one of three apps, and that 23 percent of app users abandon an app after a single use, it's clear that Facebook is putting enormous pressure on the rest of the app ecosystem.
Despite a decline in app downloads, Nomura says that "Facebook is the clear leader in mobile."
