NEW DELHI: TP-LINK and Cisco cornered 34% share of India’s Ethernet switch market shipments in the first quarter of calendar year 2016, according to 6Wresearch, which said that the total shipments value reached over $200 million in the quarter.
Juniper, Hewlett Packard, D-LINK and Netgear were the other major players in the India Ethernet switch market in the quarter, which saw more than 30 vendors shipping Ethernet switches in India.

The report said that as many as seve OEMs shipped above 5,000 Ethernet switches.

The study said that escalating number of internet subscribers in the country coupled with increasing adoption of advanced network solutions by the Corporate and Enterprise segment have fuelled the growth Ethernet Switches in the Indian market.

It said that rapid developments in telecom infrastructure along with technological advancements in communication and networking industry have accelerated the sales of these devices in the country.

“Increasing digital connectivity across tier 2 & 3 cities, rising penetration of 3G/4G technology, and decline in average selling price of these devices have led to the growth of India Ethernet Switches Market. Additionally, government initiatives towards network digitalization coupled with growing spending in the network infrastructure space, primarily across the IT and corporate sector have further assisted in the market development,” Anuj Mehrotra (Senior Research Analyst, 6Wresearch-India Electronics Division) said.

Emerging application segments including Healthcare, Hospitality and e-commerce have resulted in the increase in demand for enterprise switches in the country. However, lack of consumer awareness and absence of essential network infrastructure, especially in the remote parts of the country are some of the major factors restraining the growth of the India Ethernet switch market.
