Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 build 14383 for insiders enrolled in the fast ring, and with this new release, the company is taking one important step towards the launch of the Anniversary Update due August 2.

Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, confirms in the original announcement that the Windows team is now doing the final checks before compiling the RTM build of the Anniversary Update (also known as the first wave of Redstone, or Redstone 1), and this is the reason this latest build doesn’t come with a watermark on the desktop.

With rumors that Microsoft has started the sign-off process of the Anniversary Update, Dona clearly states that the final build is not ready yet and explains that more builds will be released to users in the coming days and weeks.

“We’re beginning to check in final code in preparation for releasing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update to customers on August 2nd. But we’re not finished yet and will have more builds to release to Windows Insiders between now and then. Remember you guys play a big role in helping us decide which are the final *final* bits that we ship globally,” she said.

Build 14383 not a release candidate

Furthermore, the head of the Windows Insider program has also added that build 14383 is not by any means a release candidate for the Anniversary Update, and while it does perform smoothly, several other builds are projected to be published in the coming weeks.

At this point, Microsoft is fully focused on fixing bugs and improving the performance of the operating system, so no new features are being added to the Anniversary Update. This means the upcoming builds will be entirely about refining performance ahead of the public launch, and Redstone 1 is now feature locked.

Windows insiders will be the first to get the final RTM build of the Anniversary Update while retail users should start receiving it on August 2. Microsoft says that it hasn’t decided which one is going to be the final build, so it all depends on the feedback it receives for the coming releases.
