14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is preparing to bring its Windows 10 upgrade promo to an end, but users aren’t yet ready to leave behind the company’s rather aggressive push for the new OS, and Redmond could face new legal trouble in the United States.
A report coming from Rockland County Times, a publication based in Rockland County, New York, claims that users have sent complaints regarding Microsoft’s forced Windows 10 upgrades, and all of them have been forwarded to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
As a result, a lawsuit against Microsoft is now being pursued, the source adds, explaining that users can also email the Attorney General should they want to complain about the way the Windows 10 upgrade has been pushed to their computer.
Furthermore, it’s believed that Attorney Generals based in several other states are also considering cases against Microsoft for the same thing, although details in this regard are not yet available.
Upgrade offer to end on July 29
Specifically, Microsoft is being accused of installing Windows 10 on users’ computers without their consent. Windows 10 is offered free of charge to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users, and the company is making the upgrade available through an app called Get Windows 10, which automatically downloads the necessary files and launches the installer.
In some cases, however, users claimed that the upgrade to Windows 10 was started even though they didn’t agree with it, and a woman in the United States has even won a lawsuit after filing a lawsuit against Microsoft for this.
More recently, the software giant has updated the Windows 10 upgrade prompts with new notifications that include an easier way to refuse the move to the new OS, but with the offer ending on July 29, it all seems to be too little too late.
