Super Stickman Golf 3 spins you right round, baby, right round

Note: This story has not been updated for several years.

I know everybody and their dog is busy searching for Pokemon right now, but just in case that’s not scratching your iOS game-playing itch, it’s worth mentioning that last week also saw the launch of the latest installment in one of my favorite franchises: Super Stickman Golf 3.

SSG3

I’ve been beta-testing Noodlecake’s latest for the last few weeks and I have to report that it’s gotten me to pick up my stickman club once again. There’s an entirely new mechanic that lets you add backspin or topspin to your shots while in flight, giving you a little more control over where that ball goes. Twenty new courses add a raft of new challenges, including waterfalls, moving lasers, and more. There are also new power-ups, new hats, new golfer outfits, and a few new game modes, including a Daily Race that lets you face off against other golfers for fabulous prizes. Upgrades get unlocked through packs of cards, which you can earn as you go along, or buy using the Golf Bux you accumulate. (Or, if you must, via actual money.)

If twenty courses aren’t enough to sate you, there are also additional downloadable courses, available with the $3 SSG3 Premium upgrade (the base game is itself a free download), which also gives you additional card packs, removes ads, ups your turn-based match limit, and gives you unlimited attempts at the daily race.

For those who’ve enjoyed the SSG franchise in the past, this is a no-brainer–especially since you can give it a whirl for free. If you haven’t dipped your toe in yet, well, what are you waiting for?
