Pokemon Go is a fun augmented-reality game that gets you out of the house to hunt for Pokemon in the real world (the app relies on your phone's camera and GPS). Your task is to capture and evolve these creatures, and then train them to become fierce fighters, capable of aiding you in your ultimate quest -- to overtake and reign supreme over neighboring Pokemon Gyms.

Pros

Informative intro: Even if you've never heard of Pokemon, Pokemon Go provides a great explainer upon launch to get you up to speed on your mission.

Customizable avatar: Before you head out into the world, you can customize your avatar's gender, skin tone, hair and eye color, and clothing and backpack style. You're also able to name them.

Easy control gestures: Move your body to get your avatar to nearby Pokemon, the next PokeStop (which offers Poke Balls, potions, and eggs), or Gym.

Keeps you active: Unlike some mobile games that leave you on the sofa all day, Pokemon Go encourages you to walk or run around your area and explore new places. The more you exercise, the more creatures you capture and the more powerful your existing creatures become.

Cons

Slowdowns and crashes: Because of Pokemon Go's popularity, we kept experiencing stalls and even got kicked out of the game repeatedly. We saw the message "Our servers are experiencing issues. Please come back later" way too many times.

Pokemon Go is a fun, action-packed game that keeps you active.

As you walk around a neighborhood, your smartphone will vibrate when there's a Pokemon nearby. Take aim and throw a Poke Ball. You'll have to stay alert, or it might get away. Search far and wide for Pokemon and items. Certain Pokemon appear near their native environment--look for Water-type Pokemon by lakes and oceans. Visit PokeStops and Gyms--found at interesting places like museums, art installations, historical markers, and monuments--to stock up on Poke Balls and helpful items.

You can add to your collection by hatching Pokemon Eggs based on the distances you walk. Help your Pokemon evolve by catching many of the same kind. Choose a Buddy Pokemon to walk with and earn Candy that will help you make your Pokemon stronger. Take on Gym battles and defend your Gym. As your Charmander evolves to Charmeleon and then Charizard, you can battle together to defeat a Gym and assign your Pokemon to defend it against all comers. You can also participate in Raid Battles at Gyms around the world. A Raid Battle is a cooperative gameplay experience that encourages you to work with up to 20 other Trainers to defeat an extremely powerful Pokemon known as the Raid Boss. If you succeed in defeating it in battle, you'll have the chance to catch an extra powerful Pokemon of your own. It's time to get moving--your real-life adventures await.
