It’s almost confirm that Apple will drop the 3.5 mm headphone jack in favour of dual stereo speakers and one single lightning port as the only medium of interface when it launches the next iPhone sometime in September. The reports and rumours have indicated at Apple introducing a lightning earpods with the new iPhone in order to mitigate the lack of headphone jack. While we have seen press renders of what it might look like, it is being shown in a video for the first time.

Apple won’t be the first smartphone manufacturer to drop 3.5 mm headphone jack, if at all it does with the next iPhones. Chinese internet technology company, LeEco and Motorola have already dropped headphone jack from their recent smartphines in favour of USB-C based headphones.

According to BGR, Apple is trying to trademark the name “Airpods” hinting at plans to announce Bluetooth-enabled headphones. While the rumours are ripe around Apple’s plans, a new video has surfaced online which shows Apple’s lightning earpods in action.

The video uploaded by EverythingApplePro on YouTube shows the lightning connected Apple earpods that will ship with the new iPhone. The video shows traditional earpods that Apple introduced in September 2012. The only difference being the lightning connector replacing the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Its unclear whether these are final Apple design or just Chinese imitations.

According to BGR, Apple will also bundle a lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack converter with every 2016 iPhone (also dubbed as iPhone 7). That certainly makes sense considering iPhone users who upgrade and carry an older earpods would prefer to have a dongle.

Festive offer

In other rumours, Apple is reported to launch three new iPhones – iPhone, iPhone Plus and iPhone Pro. The iPhone Pro is rumoured to feature a dual rear camera with depth sensor. The smartphone is expected to go on pre-order on September 9.
