Microsoft Pushes Win 10 Anniversary Update With PC Discounts

Ahead of Tuesday's Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft is highlighting discounts on a handful of laptops and tablets.

The lineup of PCs—available online and in stores—are reduced by $100 to $150, and in some cases more for students. Anyone already running Windows 10 will get the Anniversary Update for free. But if you're in the market for a new device, Redmond's sale could help you save a few bucks. Among the PCs on sale are:

• Dell Inspiron 17.3-inch and Lenovo Yoga 710 15.6-inch 2-in-1s, both of which run Core i7 processors and are available at Best Buy for $899.99.
• $100 off the Dell XPS 13-inch from the Microsoft Store ($999)
• $100 off the HP Pavilion x360 15-inch via Staples ($629.99)
• $100 off Samsung's Galaxy TabPro S 12-inch tablet on Amazon ($797.99 through Aug. 31).
• Asus Q524 touch-screen laptop ($899.99 from Best Buy)
• HP Spectre X360 13-inch ($999.99 from Microsoft and Best Buy)
• Lenovo Flex 4 ($599.99 at Staples)
• Microsoft's Surface Book 13.5-inch ($1,349.99 via Best Buy).

Some restrictions apply, so be sure to read the fine print. Best Buy offers are valid through Aug. 6, while folks can take advantage of Microsoft Store deals until Sept. 24. Products available on Staples.com and select stores vary.

Students, meanwhile, can gear up for college with additional rebates of $150; Microsoft also promised savings up to $449 on Surface and Xbox One devices, as well as a Dell PC for $699 and a free TV with purchase.

For those new to the system, Microsoft Stores offer Windows 10 workshops to help customers understand and transition to the new Anniversary Update. The refresh comes with new features and improvements for consumers and enterprises—including Windows Ink, enhancements for Cortana, a "more power-efficient" Edge browser, better security, and new gaming experiences.
