Microsoft Helps Mac Users Ditch Evernote for OneNote

Annoyed about Evernote's recent price hike? Microsoft wants to help.

The software giant in March released a tool to help Windows users easily transfer all their to-dos from Evernote to its own OneNote service, and now it's offering the same capability to those on Mac.

"Following the great feedback we received, we want to help even more people make the move," OneNote Product Marketing Manager Scott Shapiro wrote in a blog post. "You may feel hesitant about moving all your notes from a place you know to a new online home. Don't worry, the Importer tool makes moving day easy."

Like the Windows version, the OneNote importer for Mac will transfer all your Evernote notes to Microsoft's competing service. Redmond admitted that the services "have a lot in common," but said OneNote has a few "standout features" compared to its rival.

While both services are available across platforms (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and the Web), OneNote offers additional benefits like free offline access to notes on mobile (a paid Evernote feature), unlimited monthly uploads (Evernote's free version caps you at 60MB/month), and the ability to "write anywhere on the page with free-form canvas" (a feature Evernote lacks altogether), Microsoft said.

Both services also let you share content with others and save content from the Web. But, with Evernote you'll need a paid subscription to do things like save email into your notes and digitize business cards, features that are available for free in OneNote, Microsoft said.
