Last-Minute iPhone 7 Guesses: More Colors, Storage, Cameras, Waterproofing

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo lets loose his likely final list of predictions for Apple's Wednesday iPhone 7 announcement.

iPhone 7 Camera Rumor

With just a few days until Apple officially reveals the iPhone 7—or so every rumor goes—there's a little last-minute speculation as to what the latest and greatest iPhone is going to look like.

While it's almost assured that the new iPhone will be missing some critical features, like its headphone jack, buyers are going to get some new fun elements to play around with. For starters, the iPhone 7 might arrive in two new colors: "dark black" and "piano black," as described in a weekend report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. If that's the case, then the iPhone's traditional space gray color might go away, leaving potential purchasers with five total colors to pick from.

The core iPhone lineup might change as well. Kuo suggests that Apple might drop its 16GB and 64GB versions of the iPhone and instead release 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB versions of the iPhone 7. Though you're unlikely to notice it in everyday use, the iPhone 7 Plus is expected to have an additional gigabyte of memory—bumping it up to 3GB total, versus the normal iPhone 7 (and current iPhone 6s)—which will allow it to better handle the rumored dual-camera setup that should be exclusive to the larger smartphone.

Said dual-camera setup will feature a combination of a wide-angle camera and a telephoto camera, which could shoot at 12 megapixels and supports optical image stabilization. An upgrade flash in the iPhone 7 is expected to come with four LEDs instead of two—half of the new LEDs will be set at a cooler temperature and half at a warmer one, in order to get a more color-accurate picture of whatever it is owners are shooting. And to match the iPhone 7's stronger camera performance, Apple is rumored to be upgrading its display to feature the same kind of wide-color gamut you can currently find in its iPad Pro.

As for the aforementioned headphone jack, that's almost assuredly going bye-bye. However, Kuo speculates that Apple will be including both Lightning EarPods and an adapter for the device's Lightning port, in case you still want to use your existing headphones with the new iPhone.

The new iPhone 7 is also expected to be waterproof—up to one meter of water for 30 minutes. According to Kuo, this waterproofing is also allegedly affecting the new smartphone's production. Here's hoping that doesn't lead to huge delays for those that don't get their pre-orders in quickly.
