Apple brings back the glossy black iPhone with new jet black color

The new iPhone is here, and it's pretty similar in looks to the old iPhone. But, for 2016, Apple is offering two new colors for its flagship product: black and jet black. These new finishes will join the current gold, silver, and rose gold models, replacing the muted space gray option (which was sort-of black but mostly not).

Jet black is the glossier of the two finishes and the star of the show. At the iPhone's unveiling event, a video narrated by Jony Ive showed the process of creating the jet black finish in typical caressing, obsessive tones. (It involves things like "rotational 3D polishing" and "magnetized iodized particle baths.") The plain black color got less attention and understandably so. It basically looks a little darker than space gray, but is similarly matte. Phil Schiller called it simply "very cool, very high tech." It's available in all the new memory options — 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB — while jet black only comes with the higher two tiers.
