Most UK major networks and mobile retailers are affected by stock problems including, EE, O2, Vodafone, Three Mobile, BT and Carphone Warehouse.

One user on Twitter said: “@BTCare went to bed expecting my iPhone today, woke up to tracker saying ‘sorry for delay’. What the hell is going on?”

While another said: “@VodafoneUK Absolute joke, why wait till this morning to tell me there is a delay on the iPhone 7 which I was told would be delivered today.”

Some Apple fans queued for two days only to find the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus had SOLD OUT

Others have seen the humorous side to the situation: “The irony of listening to Stevie Wonders “signed, sealed, delivered” whilst on hold waiting to speak to @O2 about my Iphone order delay”.

Another said: “Obviously there is a delay on my iPhone because of "unprecedented global demand". Didn't see that one coming Apple”

One unhappy Vodafone customer who contacted The Sun Online said: “I have taken the day off to waiting for the delivery and I didn’t get a text message until 7pm last night.

"They told me that I could re-order the phone but that it would take 2-3 weeks for the matte black iPhone 7 and up to six weeks for the jet black.

"It’s very unprofessional and I’ve been passed from pillar to post. It’s appalling."

Yesterday, Apple said that it had run out of stock of the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 in jet black and that customers would not be able to buy them in store today.

Apple confirmed that customers would still be able to place orders online.

"We sincerely appreciate our customers' patience as we work hard to get the new iPhone into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible," Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said in a statement yesterday.

A spokesperson from O2 said that there has been a “market wide delay in receiving iPhone stock” and that most of its customers who pre-ordered the phone will experience some kind of delay.

It also said that it would contact customers to explain the situation and apologies for the “disappointment” it has caused.

How to get up to £124 in cashback on a new iPhone 7

Cashback websites, such as Quidco and TopCashback, pay you when you click through them and purchase something.

Your transaction is tracked and once it has been approved by the retailer it is added to your cashback account.

You can get the cash paid directly into your bank or paypal account once you’ve earned more than around £5.

The sites are free to use but they have premium options which give users access to exclusive cashback rates and faster payments.

You’ll pay £5 a year for access and this is taken from your cashback earnings.

The most you can get in cashback is from Three Mobile who are offering £123.90 on iPhone 7 pre-order contracts with 30GB data.

EE said that it has seen “unprecedented demand” for the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

A spokesman added: “There is widely reported global shortage of stock, and like all UK retailers we have been sent limited initial numbers of these devices.”

It said that customers will be sent text messages to update them about when phones will arrive and that it is prioritising orders.

Vodafone said despite high demand that it still expected the vast majority of its customers to receive their pre-ordered phones on time.

Although, those that had ordered an iPhone 7 Plus and jet black iPhone 7 may experience a delay.

It also apologised to customers for the inconvenience and disappointment.
