  • "Apple's Forgotten Business: iTunes" ["In Apple's fiscal 2011, iTunes represented 6% of its net sales, coming in at $6.3 billion. ... iTunes is not a sexy product like iPhone or iPad, but it represents the lifeblood of those devices."]  TheStreet 8:07 AM

  • "The iPad's Image Game: The new iPad's Retina display is one of the tablet's more talked-about attributes. Combined with its powerful graphics processor, the iPad could offer an even more powerful gaming experience. Will developers get on board? 'Developers are also concerned about development costs going up, and things like Retina display have a huge impact on cost,' said M2Research's Wanda Meloni."  MacNewsWorld 8:44 AM
  • "How Apple Inc. Became the Vampire Squid of Tech" ["Business partnerships with Apple Inc. produce abundant profits - but usually only for Apple. Using its clout as a vendor of highly desirable consumer technology, Apple secures extremely favorable deals with suppliers, providers of goods and services, and retailers. Such deals are a major reason behind Apple's extraordinary profits."]  Money Morning 8:06 AM

  • "'I have noticed disappearing conversion options in Preferences in 10.5.3. I do not know why, and poking about has revealed no work-around to this. Specifically, I no longer have the ability to modify AAC import settings; they are, in effect, frozen at the settings I typically use, so it's not a personal issue, but the loss of choice is...disturbing.' You can still set AAC options in iTunes 10.6 (40). iTunes > Preferences > General > Import Settings >Import Using. If you have the options set to something other than Custom, choosing Custom opens the settings window. If you have the options set to Custom (as I think you do), click Custom to select it, then click Custom again to open the settings window." MacInTouch 4:25 PM

Op/Ed
  • "Yesterday I ranted and blew off steam about the current AppleTV sorting problems. Later that evening I spent more time troubleshooting and trying to understand what was going on. I think I may have figured out what is happening, but I'm afraid I have no solution for it other than waiting for Apple to fix it.: Superficial examination of the evidence showed that the AppleTV was sorting TV shows by the name of their enclosing folder. But looking closer, I've discovered that is a red herring. The actual problem is that the sort is by inverse order of date added to the library. (The reason this appears to be by folder is that items were added to my library folder by folder, and thus the folder 'Deep Space Nine' was added with other folders beginning with 'D.' So, 'Star Trek Deep Space Nine' appears in the list sorted by the time it was added - along with the other items in 'D' folders)." MacInTouch 4:26 PM
