Is this from the LSD period? Ashton Kutcher resembles Where's Wally in trippy red and white jumper for Steve Jobs biopic

It was recently revealed Ashton Kutcher's forthcoming Steve Jobs biopic would touch on the Apple tycoon's LSD use.

And that would help explain the particularly garish red and white striped jumper the actor was spotted wearing on set in Los Angeles today.

The heavily contrasting jersey is almost enough on its own to change the perceptual experience of its beholder.

A bad trip: It would be an unwise idea to look at the previous outfit he wore on the set of the Steve Jobs biopic while on LSD

However many will also think that the Two and a Half Men star's appearance bears more than a little similarity to popular children's character Wally.

In his hit series of books and cartoons, fans of the character would look for the explorer in a wide range of thrillingly different locations.

One thing that would instantly rule Ashton out in any search would be his beverage, for he was carrying a trendy ice coffee instead of the character's traditional walking stick.

Ashton is said by friends to have been 'rehearsing for hours and hours' before taking on the role of master computer salesman.

But everyone will be hoping hope Ashton hasn't decided to go method in preparation for his role as the Apple visionary in the biopic of his life Jobs: Get Inspired.

It was not a secret that Steve Jobs dabbled in recreational drugs, but new Pentagon files revealed just how much he valued the mind-altering substances, and he even credited LSD with having a 'life-changing' effect on him.

In a government security clearance questionnaire, filled out in 1988 and released this week, the late Apple founder divulged he took LSD up to 15 times between 1972 and 1974.

While he said he had 'no words' to explain how he reacted to the hallucinogenic drug, he told Department of Defense officials: 'It was a positive life changing experience for me and I am glad I went through that experience'.

Mr Jobs, who died in October after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, opened up about his drug use in the background check he completed to gain Top Secret security clearance with the DoD while he was working at Pixar.

The film will follow the Apple corporation from 1971 to 2000, when Steve became the full time CEO of Apple for a second time.

Producer Mark Hulme says he chose him because he can embody the character not only physically, but mentally too.

And in what is clearly a reference to Jobs LSD years, he added Ashton was picked to play Jobs because he can handle the 'psychological complexity' of the role.

Ashton will portray the ups and downs of Jobs', seen right in 1981, in film Jobs: Get Inspired - which will include his heavy experimentation with LSD

Mark told Neowin.net last month: 'Since our film covers the early years of Apple, when Jobs was in his 20s, we needed an actor who could carry not only the youthfulness of Jobs at the time but also the psychological complexity.

By 1988, Jobs was looking a lot more like a CEO after emerging from the LSD period

'Because of that, and Ashton's physical similarities to Jobs, he's perfect for our film.'

In the documents, handed to Wired under Freedom of Information laws, Jobs declared: 'I would ingest the LSD on a sugar cube or in a hard form of gelatin,' he said.

'I would usually take the LSD when I was by myself.'

They also reveal Jobs smoked marijuana or hashish, or ate it cooked into chocolate brownies, once or twice a week between 1973 and 1977 and credited getting high with fueling his creativity.

'The best way I would describe the effect of the marijuana and the hashish is that it would make me relaxed and creative,' he said.

Unlike LSD, the tech titan said he used the drugs with friends but insisted the last time he had got high was more than a decade earlier - in 1977.

He told Pentagon interviewers that he had never used any other illegal drug or misused prescription drugs and added that he only purchased the substances rather than distributing them.

Ashton was seen back on set yesterday looking more focused than ever, sporting the Apple boss's trademark polo shirt, this time in a bright green colour.

The 34-year-old actor strolled through the set with co-star Ahna O'Reilly who plays the tech genius's first girlfriend Chris-Ann Brennan in the new biopic.

Producer Mark said: 'When Ashton read the script he was immediately attracted to the project.

'He is a Steve Jobs and Apple fan, and is technologically savvy, as well, so he recognised the historical importance of Steve Jobs and the potential of the project. He is very excited to have the role.'

Mark added that they had been working on the script ever since Steve formally stepped down from the company last August, due to ill health. He then passed away in October from pancreatic cancer.

Mark said: 'On the day that his retirement was announced - with no big scandal or disaster - I noticed that the buzz about his retirement consumed our creative and IT staff for the entire day. I had never seen anything like that reaction. That was the spark. We immediately began researching and writing the screen play.'

And while Ashton sported casual clothes which included hippie style sandals, Ahna looked equally low key in short denim shorts and a pink T-shirt.

The Two and a Half Men star looked relaxed as he headed back to his trailer after earlier being spotted giving cast and crew members high fives after completing a scene.

Ahna was seen a couple of days ago getting into the role of the South Bay painter who gave birth to Jobs' first daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs in 1978.

Following their split, for two years Jobs denied that he was the father of the little girl, claiming that he was sterile and could not have been the paternal father.

He later acknowledged Lisa as his daughter.

Jobs then went on to marry Laurene Powell in 1981, and the couple had one son and two daughters.

Brennan recently wrote an article about Jobs for Rolling Stone where she recalled her relationship with Jobs, who was 17 at the time when they meet at Cupertino's Homestead High School.

She described Jobs during this time as 'almost 100% romantic.'

Meanwhile, O'Reilly is best known for her role as Elizabeth Leefolt in the Oscar-winning film, The Help.

Before the breakout role she had small roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Nancy Drew.
