Who needs a gun during a zombie invasion when you've got a giant rolling ball to kill them with? Actually, guns are probably better in this kind of scenario.

To sum up Zombie Rollers succinctly, it's a lot like Pac-Man with zombies. Players must roll at the zombie hordes, scattered around each town, accruing points for each splatter that occurs.

It's not as simple as that, of course. At first, the player is vulnerable to attack. There's no way of defending or fighting back, not until the player walks into a giant ball that immediately invokes comparisons to Super Monkey Ball. Once in the ball, it's possible to roll towards zombies, splattering them and taking them out. The ball only lasts so long, however, and the process starts all over again once it vanishes.

There's a little more to it, in the form of different types of balls and power-ups. For instance, meat ball has slices of bacon spread across it, thus encouraging the zombies to run towards it. Other power-ups include a freeze bomb that freezes all the zombies nearby while a fire bomb, well, you get the idea.

Ultimately though, Zombie Rollers is pretty shallow. Progression is down to scoring enough points in one session to unlock the next stage but all that really enables is a slightly harder difficulty level and a hint of variety. There's no real mission structure or anything else to give the player a sense of achievement. It all gets a little dull a little too fast. The control scheme, sensibly, offers the most variety of the entire game. Tilt controls feel appropriate when rolling the ball but I found myself preferring a virtual joystick on the left hand side worked best while running around the town. The drag control method was the weakest of the bunch but still worked sufficiently.

With no real sense of progression and a quite steep and unfair difficulty curve (no one likes to be killed by a zombie that they couldn't even see due to the isometric nature of the level), Zombie Rollers is far from one of Chillingo's best entries to the App Store.
