It's Not TV, It's Apple TV: HBO Go For iOS Finally Updated With AirPlay Support

February 13, 2013
A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that HBO Go content would begin to appear natively on Apple TV this year. Well, until it does, you can settle for the next best thing for now. The next best thing is none other than the universal HBO Go app for iOS, which has just been updated with AirPlay support. That's right: the latest version of HBO Go introduces AirPlay support, enabling you to wirelessly stream content from your iDevice to your Apple TV. HBO Go content, of course, includes movies, documentaries, comedy specials, sports programs, and original shows (a couple of my favorites being "Game of Thrones" and "Girls"). If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. But HBO Go's new and long-overdue AirPlay feature comes with a couple of caveats. First, AirPlay is supported on iDevices running iOS 6.0 or later. Second, it's supported on Apple TVs that have been updated to software version 5.1.1 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 4.3 or later, HBO GO is available in the App Store for free. But note that, as mentioned, the app's AirPlay support works on iOS 6 only. Also, the app works only with an HBO subscription through participating television providers in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
