From the makers of MoviePop and SongPop, you just know that BoxPop is going to be another simple to play title. It's a departure from the quiz days of the past, focusing on simple puzzles to do with clearing all the boxes within a level. It's not exactly taxing but it is quite fun and passes the time reasonably well.

Each level is a series of boxes, usually arranged in a certain formation in order to look like a shape of some description. You start at one point then move from tile to tile in a L shaped path. Think the Knight in chess and you're on the right track. Early levels only consist of a few tiles so it's pretty easy to clear them all but as you progress and gain stars, bigger and more substantial levels open up. Eventually you're tasked with the role of clearing an 8 x 8 shape and things get much harder.

I say much harder. Harder in terms of gaining the elusive 3 stars to show you've fully completed the stage. It's often pretty easy to gain at least 1 star with the option to return later on to gain more. A set number of stars are required to unlock new stages but the game is pretty generous in how it unlocks things.

Given BoxPop's relative simplicity it really doesn't take long to unlock everything, which leaves you wishing there were more levels on offer. BoxPop is perhaps a little too simple for that reason and too easy to finish up. Gaining all three stars might take a bit of effort but it's still rarely taxing to achieve. Because of that, BoxPop lacks the staying power of the developer's other titles. It's a brief delight that will soon be forgotten about.
